IGANMODE GRAMMAR SCHOOL (OTA) PROFILE
Iganmode
Grammar School, Ota the premier Secondary School, and a foremost post primary institution in Nigeria were founded on the 25th of January, 1960. It started at
a temporary site in Sango – Ota with 30 boys’ day students and 3 teachers and
Mr. M. A. Adebulugbe as its pionerering Principal. The model school moved to
its permanent site at Oju – Ore, along Idiroko Road, Ota in 1961. The
establishment of the school was premised on the need to provide a sound Secondary
Education to the indigenous Sons of Ota land.
This objective became widened to accommodate girls as the importance of girls’ education became more obvious. With admission of girls in 1970 also came the provision of boarding facilities. Since Secondary Education then was for period of five years, the school enrolled candidates for the West African Senior Certificate Education for the first time in November / December, 1965. Chief R. A. Deinde took over as second principal and the school graduated its first set of male and female students in December, 1972.
Notably, the raison deter for the existence of the school tallies with the goals of secondary education as set by National Policy on Education hinged on preparation of pupils for useful living within the society and preparation of pupils for higher education. Significantly, the development of science subjects in the school was gradual with Biology laboratory coming first in terms of construction and equipment while laboratories for Chemistry and Physics was completed in 1972 during the tenure of Mr. J. A. Abiona as Principal.
The registration of students for Biology and Chemistry did not start until 1971, in the subsequent years after 1974, the school secured WAEC approval to register candidates for the three science subjects. The school offers comprehensive secondary education with twenty six subjects and prepares students in the domain of the cognitive, psychomotor and affective development for responsible citizenship and tomorrow’s leadership through participation in the Junior Secondary Certificate and the Senior Secondary Certificate Education.
To date, the school has been blessed with capable hands as Principals:

The year 2006 gave birth to the decertification policy of the Federal Government where Secondary Schools were split into two categories of Junior and Senior Secondary. Consequently, Iganmode Grammar School broke into two. The Junior School had Mrs. Taiwo Olayinka Ogunbiyi as its pioneering Principal and was later replaced by Mr. Timothy Aduramo Adeogun and currently the Principal of the Junior Schools is Alh. M. D. Kadir who doubled as the current President of the All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools in Ogun State and the six South – Western States of Nigeria.
Without any bickering whatsoever Iganmode Grammar School, Ota is noted for its academic achievement having won numerous laurels at different competition and events both at Local, State and National levels.
I. G. S has since its inception continued to wax stronger and stronger winning a lot of laurels locally, nationally and internationally to the admiration of all and sundry:
Iganmode Grammar School (I. G. S.) was the first public school Nationwide to emerge first position in National JETS Computer Competition in Nov. 2000 at Enugu.
I. G. S has won the 1st position seven times in the states JETS Competition in 1990, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2000, and 2001.
I. G. S has been the state representative in the National JETS Competition since 1990 till date.
I. G. S won the maiden edition of the Cowbell Mathematics Competition for both Junior and Senior Category in the State and won the Senior Category Nationwide in the year 2001. In the 2002 edition, I. G. S came 1st in the Junior Category in the State and 3rd Nationwide.
